Metanium Nappy Rash Ointment

Methane is designed to prevent rash in the nappy. Metanium helps alleviate, protect, and heal soreness. The creation of a thin barrier between the skin and waste products is to recover your baby quickly. The base of the ointment is contained in water-abstracting silicone, titanium peroxide and titanium salicylate.

How effective is Metanium?

Metanium is an effective way of treating and preventing nappy rash. In a study performed by Netmums, 83% of mums said Metanium every day was effective in helping prevent nappy rash. 97% of mums said Metanium was easy to use.

The use of Protection Ointment and Spray are recommended for long term use to prevent a nappy rash from occurring. While the stronger Treatment Ointment should only be used when your baby is suffering an identifiable cause. Used together, your baby is given the ultimate protection.

Can I buy Metanium online?

Metanium does not require a prescription, although you are very welcome to book an appointment with a health expert at Click Pharmacy to discuss how best to use this product.

Three options are available:

The Yellow One – 30g Metanium Nappy Rash Ointment

The Purple One – 40g and 80g Metanium Everyday Barrier Ointment

The Green One – 60ml Metanium Everyday Easy Spray Barrier Lotion

All 3 can be purchased online and will be sent directly to you by Next Day Delivery. Multipacks are also available.

What dose should I choose?

Metanium comes in 3 styles designed for use on babies. It is recommended to apply Metanium after each nappy change.

For every day preventative use the Purple Ointment or Green Spray should be used. When using ointments, a pea-sized application should be applied. In the case of a spray, two short sprays should be enough.

In the case of a serious episode of nappy rash the Yellow Treatment Ointment should be used. As with the Purple Preventative ointment, use a pea-sized application.

While overdosing is not usually possible when applied in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines, care must be taken not to ingest the product. Salicylate poisoning is possible in this instance. If you notice any symptoms such as vomiting, dehydration, tinnitus, vertigo, deafness, sweating, warm extremities with bounding pulses, increased respiratory rate and hyperventilation, then seek medical care immediately.

In the event of accidental ingestion, contact your doctor immediately.

How should I apply Metanium?

To apply Metanium Ointments (both Protection and Treatment), perform the following steps:

  1. Remove and dispose of soiled nappy.

  2. Clean and wash the affected area.

  3. Dry with a soft towel – pat any areas of nappy rash gently, do not rub and irritate further.

  4. Wash your hands.

  5. Squeeze a pea-sized drop onto your finger.

  6. Apply to the sore area.

  7. Spread thinly – you should be able to see the skin texture through it.

  8. Wash your hands thoroughly, particularly before preparing food or touching sensitive areas of your baby.

After applying, keep the nozzle clean. Re-apply after each nappy change.

To apply Metanium Spray, perform the following steps:

  1. Remove and dispose of soiled nappy.

  2. Clean and wash the affected area.

  3. Dry with a soft towel – pat any areas of nappy rash gently, do not rub and irritate further.

  4. Shake well.

  5. Spray from 20-30cm from the area to create a thin protective layer.

  6. Gently pat around the area if additional coverage is required – do not rub.

  7. Wash your hands thoroughly, particularly before preparing food or touching sensitive areas of your baby.

Two sprays should provide adequate coverage.

How does Metanium work?

Nappy rash is caused when urine and faeces remain in contact with the skin for long periods, and by tight nappies that rub and prevent the circulation of air.

Metanium works by creating a barrier between the skin and the irritants. The barrier helps prevent further irritation and reduces soreness. The ointment also helps to soothe the skin and to reduce associated pain.

Metanium Preventative Ointment (Purple) and Spray (Green) help to prevent the development of nappy rash.

Metanium Treatment (Yellow) contains a stronger dose that helps to clear up a case of nappy rash.

How long do I need to apply Metanium to work before I notice a difference?

The number of applications required before a noticeable difference is seen will depend on the severity of the nappy rash. For mild cases, an improvement can be made within a few applications. For more severe cases, it may take several days to see a significant improvement. If you notice any signs of distress or side-effects, do not hesitate to contact your health care professional.

What are the side effects of Metanium?

Metanium generally does not cause side effects. However, some baby’s may occasionally experience skin irritation. If any unexpected results take place, discontinue use and speak to your doctor.

In the event of accidental swallowing, visit your doctor immediately.

When shouldn’t I apply Metanium?

Do not use Metanium if your baby is sensitive to any of the listed ingredients. In the event of an allergic reaction, visit your doctor.

What is the difference between Metanium and Sudocream/Bepanthen?

Metanium is explicitly designed to alleviate the symptoms of nappy rash. Providing a protective barrier, it helps stop irritants from sitting on the skin and causing a nappy rash.

Sudocream is a more generic cream that does not provide the physical barrier that Metanium does. While helping to prevent nappy rash as a preventative measure, it is unlikely to improve the present case of an outbreak.

Bepanthen ointment works similarly to Metanium, but also contains Vitamin B5. Bepanthen is recommended for regular use and closer in function to Metanium Preventative Ointment and Spray. It is less capable as a treatment.

The Metanium range provided the right mix of preventative ointment/spray and treatment ointment.
