What is Tixylix

How effective is Tixylix Syrup?

Tixylix Toddler Syrup works to soothe the symptoms of your child's cough, easing irritation and aiding a quick recovery, it’s natural blackcurrant flavouring makes it easy for children to take without complaints. Each 5ml dose of Tixylix Baby Syrup contains 0.75ml glycerol as the active ingredient. Glycerol is known for its soothing properties, glycerol is a potent compound that adds to the effectiveness of cough medicines. Due to its sweet taste, moisture retention abilities, and properties of lubrication, glycerol helps make cough syrup like Tixylix Toddler Syrup hassle-free and easy to swallow. 

Can I buy Tixylix Syrup online? 

Normally an over the counter medication, Tixylix for babies and toddlers is easy to purchase conveniently online. What dose should I choose?

Tixylix Toddler Syrup comes in bottles of 100ml. Each bottle contains 15ml of the active ingredient, glycerol. The medicine is intended for the use in children aged three months to five years. For children aged three months to under one year, administer one 5ml spoonful, three to four times a day. For children aged 1 to 5 years, administer two 5ml spoonfuls, three to four times a day. Please allow 3 to 4 hours between doses. Please be aware that Tixylix Toddler Syrup is not suitable for children below three months of age.

How should I give Tixylix Syrup?

Tixylix Syrup will soothe your child's symptoms, by loosening secretions in the chest and relieving congestion. Keep in mind that It's important to compliment the medicine by ensuring that your child drinks plenty of fluids, to aid recovery and to ensure your child stays healthy and hydrated.

Tixylix Syrup may be given with or without food. Using the measuring spoon provided with the bottle, ensure that the correct dose is given up 3 to 4 times daily, by mouth. For children three-twelve months, we advise one 5ml spoonful. For children one-five years, it is recommended two 5ml spoonfuls. After use, ensure the neck of the bottle is wiped clean, and the safety cap is firmly closed. Allow 3 to 4 hours between doses. 

Giving your child too much Tixylix Syrup could lead to diarrhoea so please ensure to follow the dosage guidelines and never give your child a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. A single dose should be more than enough.

You can give your child Tixylix Syrup for as long as the cough remains but if your child's symptoms worsen or do not improve after three days, we strongly advise that you contact a doctor.

While there here are currently no known interactions between Tixylix Syrup and other medicines, please consult your doctor or a pharmacist if your child is taking or has recently taken any other medications. 

How does Tixylix Syrup work?

Tixylix Syrup is a soothing cough suppressant. The active ingredient, glycerol can also sometimes block cough receptors in the throat, reducing irritation suffered and aiding recovery. Glycerol is an alcohol-free compound, which works quickly to relieve the symptoms of dry, tickly coughs. Glycerol creates a protective, demulcent film, which forms over mucous membranes in the mouth.

Tixylix Syrup is suitable for all children aged from three months to five years who experience tickling coughs. Tixylix Syrup has a natural blackcurrant and vanilla flavour, which makes it easy for children to take comfortably.

How long should my child take Tixylix Syrup before they notice a difference?

It's typical for symptoms to subside within three days of taking Tixylix Syrup. If there is no change, or symptoms start to worsen after three days, please consult a doctor as soon as possible. Please remember that while Tixylix Syrup is an effective cough suppressant, it should be taken in conjunction with fluids, and plenty of rest in a warm environment will further aid your child's recovery.

What are the side effects of Tixylix Syrup?

When taken in moderation, there are no known adverse effects. The active ingredient, glycerol holds moisture and can, in cases of overuse, lead to dehydration which can cause diarrhoea in overuse. Please ensure to keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children. Please ensure not to go over the recommended dosage. If you have accidentally given your child too much of the medicine or you suspect your child has taken extra doses of Tixylix Toddler Syrup, please contact your doctor immediately.

When shouldn't I give Tixylix Syrup to my child?  

Tixylix Syrup is not recommended for children under the age of three months. Although there are no known reactions between Tixylix Syrup and other medicines, please consult your doctor or a specialist at Click Pharmacy if your child is taking any other medication. The use is also not recommended if your child has any recorded hypersensitivity to any of the following ingredients: Liquid maltitol (Lycasin), Hydroxyethylcellulose, Sodium Benzoate, Citric Acid, Monohydrate, Sodium Citrate.

What is the difference between Tixylix Syrup and Nurofen for children/Covonia dry & tickly cough linctus? 

While Tixylix Syrup contains Glycerol and Sodium Benzoate, Nurofen for children uses liquid ibuprofen. Ibuprofen can cause heartburn and can be dangerous in the case of overdose. While ibuprofen is known for its anti-inflammatory nature, we advise avoiding its use in the case of a tickling cough. 

Covonia dry & tickly cough linctus contains similar ingredients but is not suitable for children under one-year-old. In contrast, Tixylix Syrup is ideal for children three months and older.

Can I combine Tixylix Syrup with any other drugs?

Although it is generally safe to combine other drugs with Tixylix Syrup, it is advised to consult with a doctor before combining drugs with Tixylix Syrup. This is to ensure the combination of drugs do not interfere and cause side effects.

How long is the shelf life of Tixylix Syrup?

The shelf life of Tixylix Syrup varies depending on the product. You should always follow the use by instructions as stated on the exterior of the packaging.

If you use Tixylix Syrup in moderation and follow the recommended dose you should not experience any side effects. If you experience diarrhoea this will indicate you are using too much Tixylix Syrup and should lower your dose. If your child experiences any of the following:

  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Swelling
  • Irritation
  • Difficulty breathing

Your child may be experiencing an allergic reaction. In this case you should stop using Tixylix Syrup immediately and seek medical advice from a professional as soon as possible.
