Can I buy Rennie Peppermint online?

Rennie Peppermint tablets are available for purchase online without the need for a prescription from the doctor. However, you are welcome to book an appointment with a health expert at Click Pharmacy to discuss how best to use this product. Rennie Peppermint tablets can be purchased in packs of 24 or 48 pastiles and will be sent directly to you by Next Day Delivery.

How effective is Rennie Peppermint?

Rennie Peppermint tablets contain the active ingredients of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. Rennie Peppermint turns acid into water and other natural ingredients to alleviate the discomfort and pain of indigestion, heartburn, indigestion related to acidity, hyperacidity, flatulence, upset stomach, and indigestion during pregnancy.

Rennie Peppermint tablets are taken when the symptoms appear, such as after a meal or before bedtime.

Indigestion appears with several symptoms generally after overeating, but it can also be brought about by stress or because of smoking and drinking alcohol. The same symptoms may appear during pregnancy as the foetus will start to press on the stomach. Aside from the feeling of heartburn, there may also be symptoms of nausea, frequent belching, and sometimes regurgitation of food.

In order to help with the symptoms, it is important to take note of the source/s of the problem in order to take steps to alleviate the discomfort and pain.

Your pharmacist or doctor will advise on some lifestyle changes that may be necessary. For example, some people may need to lose weight, avoid alcohol, caffeinated and carbonated drinks, and avoid large meals. It is also essential to avoid eating large meals close to bedtime. Other people may be sensitive to specific food products such as red wine and chocolate. Highly acidic foods such as those with high-fat content, including fried foods, citrus and tomato-based foods, as well as spicy foods, should be avoided at least for a short time until the symptoms improve.

What dose should I choose?

Rennie Peppermint tablets are available in one dose, with each tablet containing 680mg calcium carbonate and 80mg heavy magnesium carbonate. They are not recommended for children under 12 years of age unless specified by a doctor.

For adults and children over 12 years of age, the standard dose is two tablets to be sucked or chewed as required, preferably 1 hour after eating and before bedtime, as this is when the symptoms tend to appear.

When heartburn is present between these times, an additional 2 tablets may be taken as required. The maximum dose in one day is ten tablets.

When shouldn’t I take Rennie Peppermint?

Rennie Peppermint should not be taken with the following medicines:
Tetracyclines
Levothyroxine
Eltrombopag
Thiazide diuretics
Fluorides
Phosphates
Iron supplements

Caution should be exercised in those with kidney problems, and the medicine should not be taken in those with severe kidney disease. Patients with high calcium in the urine or blood or kidney stones should also avoid Rennie Peppermint.

The treatment is recommended for two weeks unless under the supervision of a doctor.

How does Rennie Peppermint work?

Highly acidic foods such as those with high-fat content, including fried foods, citrus and tomato-based foods, as well as spicy foods, should be avoided at least for a short time until the symptoms improve.

Some medicines may also cause hyperacidity. In this case, the doctor should be consulted to assess the severity of the symptoms and decide whether the medication should be changed or stopped.

Sometimes heartburn may be caused by stress, in which case measures should be taken to alleviate the underlying problems.

If the product is needed several times a day, every day, and over more than a week, the doctor should be consulted. Heartburn, reflux, and indigestion may be symptoms of other infections and conditions that may require further investigation and treatment.

How long do I take Rennie Peppermint for before I notice a difference?

A decrease in the severity of symptoms should be noted within 20-30 minutes of use of Rennie Peppermint Tablets, with most patients experiencing complete relief.

If a dose is missed, it is not necessary to take a double dose. The next dose should be taken when the patient remembers, and the regimen carried on at a regular frequency.

If the medication makes no difference to the symptoms, especially on repeated use, a doctor should be consulted as this might indicate the presence of another condition or infection which needs further investigation. If the product is required several times a day, every day, and over more than two weeks, the doctor should be consulted.

What are the side effects of Rennie Peppermint?

Like all medicines, Rennie Peppermint can cause side effects, but not everybody gets them. At the recommended dose, these rarely occur. Side effects may include allergic reactions such as rashes, itching, difficulty breathing, and swelling in the face, mouth or throat. Rarely there are symptoms of anaphylactic shock, such as a sudden drop in blood pressure, shock, palpitations, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea.

Long term use can lead to high levels of calcium and magnesium in the blood, especially in those with kidney conditions. This will cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, diarrhoea, tiredness, muscle weakness, impaired sense of taste, kidney problems, and headache.

Please speak to your doctor or consult our specialists at Click Pharmacy should you require any further advice.

What is the maximum dose of Rennie Peppermint Tablets?

You must not take any more than 10 tablets in one 24 hour period. If you exceed this dose you should seek medical assistance immediately.

How do Rennie Peppermint Tablets treat symptoms of heartburn and indigestion?

The active ingredients, calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, bind to allow for small gas bubbles to release out of the body.

What if I forget to take my dose of Rennie Peppermint Tablets?

If you forget to take your dose of Rennie Peppermint Tablets you should take them as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. If it is time for your next dose you should skip the dose you just missed and continue as normal. You should never take two doses at once even if you are making up for a missed dose.

Like all medicines, after using Rennie Peppermint Tablets you are likely to experience a number of various side effects. It is important to note that not everyone experiences the same side effects and side effects should begin to disappear over time. Common side effects include the following:

  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Burping
  • Release of trapped winds
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach pains
  • Increase in calcium levels

If any of these side effects worsen, you should stop using Rennie Peppermint Tablets immediately and seek medical advice from a professional, such as a GP or pharmacist, as soon as possible.

Always read the patient information leaflet before starting your treatment. The patient information can be found here.
