Imvaggis pessaries are a form of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) inserted into the vagina. They are used by women to relieve vaginal symptoms such as dryness, irritation, and itching caused by estrogen deficiency during menopause. Imvaggis is commonly used to treat vaginal atrophy.

How does Imvaggis work?
Imvaggis contains estriol, a form of estrogen similar to the one naturally produced by the ovaries. It works by replacing lost estrogen and releasing a low dose directly into the vaginal tissues. This helps restore moisture, improve elasticity, and relieve symptoms such as dryness, irritation, and discomfort caused by estrogen deficiency during menopause.
How long does it take for Imvaggis to work?
Your symptoms of vaginal dryness should begin to improve within three months of using Imvaggis Estriol Pessary. If you don’t notice any improvement, speak to your doctor as soon as possible, as they may need to adjust your dosage or consider an alternative treatment.

How to use Imvaggis estriol 0.03mg pessaries
During first 3 weeks of treatment, administer one pessary daily. After this initial phase, the dosage is usually reduced to one pessary twice a week as a maintenance dose.
Wash your hands thoroughly before using the pessary. Gently insert it deeply into the vagina, preferably in the evening before going to bed. Lying down for a few minutes afterward can help keep it in place.
Side effects of Imvaggis
Like all medications, Imvaggis may cause side effects, though not everyone experiences them.
Common side effects include:
- Vulvovaginal burning, itching, and pain
- Discomfort when urinating (dysuria)

- Vaginal discharge
- Anorectal discomfort

Imvaggis warnings
- Before using Imvaggis, inform your doctor or pharmacist about any medical conditions, allergies, or medications you are taking.
- Avoid if you have a history of breast cancer, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or estrogen-dependent tumors.
- Use with caution if you have liver disease, blood clots, or a history of stroke.
- Imvaggis is oil-based and should not be used with condoms or a diaphragm, as it may weaken the latex.
- If you rely on barrier contraception, consult your doctor for alternatives.
- Imvaggis is a low dose of oestrogen and may be used with other types of HRT or as an option for those who cannot or prefer not to use systemic HRT.
