What Dovonex is and what it is used for?
Dovonex is a prescription medicine used to treat plaque psoriasis. It contains the active ingredient calcipotriol, which is a synthetic form of vitamin D. It is used as a topical treatment, applied directly to the skin in the form of an ointment.
How does Dovonex work?
Psoriasis is a skin condition where the cells in your skin grow too quickly, causing thick, red, and scaly patches. Dovonex contains calcipotriol, a synthetic form of vitamin D, which works by slowing down the production of these skin cells. This helps restore a more normal skin cell turnover, reducing inflammation, scaling, and thickening of the skin.
How long does Dovonex take to work?
Dovonex usually starts to show improvements within 2 weeks of use. However, it may take up to 12 weeks of consistent application to see the full benefits.
Dovonex ingredients
The active substance is calcipotriol. Each gram of Dovonex ointment contains 50 micrograms of calcipotriol.
The other ingredients are disodium edetate, disodium phosphate dihydrate, all-rac-
tocopherol, liquid paraffin, macrogol (2) stearyl ether, propylene glycol, purified water and white soft paraffin.

How to use Dovonex Ointment
Always follow your doctor instructions when using Dovonex Ointment. For the best results, Dovonex is typically used twice a day once in the morning and once in the evening. If you're an adult, your doctor may suggest using it once a day instead.
- Dovonex is for external use only. Do not swallow or apply it inside your body. Avoid using it on your face or sensitive areas, as it may cause irritation.
- Wash your hands before applying Dovonex.
- Remove the cap from the tube and break the seal using the point at the back of the cap.
- Apply a thin, even layer of ointment directly onto the affected area. You can apply it directly from the tube or first onto your finger, ensuring you cover the psoriasis area thoroughly.
- Always wash your hands after applying the ointment, unless you are treating your hands. This prevents accidental spreading of the ointment to other areas of your body. If any ointment accidentally spreads onto normal skin, simply wash it off.
- Keep your skin moisturized, especially after showers or baths. If using a moisturizer, allow it to soak in before applying Dovonex.
- Your doctor will specify how often to use Dovonex, but generally, it is applied once or twice a day. Morning and evening applications are often recommended for the best results.
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. Do not double the next dose to make up for the missed one. Continue with your usual schedule.
