What is Balneum Plus Cream

Balneum Plus Cream works by replacing the oils that have been lost in dry skin, with a soothing and softening effect. This also helps prevent further loss of skin moisture. Balneum Plus Cream also contains urea, which is a substance found naturally in the skin that helps the skin retain water. It is used in people with dry skin conditions such as those with eczema and psoriasis whose skin has reduced amounts of urea. Balneum Plus cream contains lauromacrogols in an easily absorbed smooth white cream to relieve itching.

Balneum plus cream is only available in one dose. The active substances are urea 5% and lauromacrogols 3%. The other ingredients are dimethicone, phenyl dimethicone, liquid paraffin, cetylpalmitate, stearic palmitic acid, octyldodecanol, glycerol 85 %, polysorbate, carbomer, trometamol, benzyl alcohol and purified water.

How should I use Balneum Plus Cream?

Balneum plus cream can be used by children, adults, and the elderly. It should be applied to the affected area/s twice a day.

Since there is no known cure for some of these skin conditions, it is important to adopt certain lifestyle habits in order to prevent flare-ups as much as possible. In most people, this may mean using a body wash without perfumes and soap. Using washing products made purposely for hypersensitive and dry atopic skin will prevent further irritation and drying of the top layers of the skin. It is also important to avoid boiling water and to stay too close to heaters for the same reason.

The patient is also encouraged to avoid scratching the itchy skin as this may continue to damage the skin, cause breakages and spread the flare-up. Chronic scratching may cause the skin to thicken to a leathery texture. Instead of scratching, the areas can be gently rubbed with the skin of the fingers instead.

In babies with atopic eczema, anti-scratch mittens may be used to stop them from scratching and damaging the skin.

How long do I apply Balneum Plus Cream for before I notice a difference?

The length of use depends on the condition, the severity of the condition, and whether the cream is deemed to be therapeutically useful. Its effect can be felt from the very first application. The ingredients in Balneum Plus Cream are safe to use for many years.

During flare-ups, the doctor may prescribe addition topical or oral treatment to accompany the cream.

What are the side effects of Balneum Plus Cream?
