What is Betnovate?

Betnovate is a topical steroid treatment that is used to treat skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. It contains the active ingredients betamethasone valerate, a potent corticosteroid that helps reduce inflammation, redness, and itching.

It comes in different forms including cream, ointment, lotion, and scalp application. Betnovate Cream and Ointment are typically used on the body. For eczema or dermatitis on the scalp, consider using specific scalp treatments like Betnovate Scalp Application, Betacap Solution, or Elocon Scalp Lotion instead of the cream or ointment.

How does Betnovate work?

Skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis occur when the skin becomes irritated and inflamed, leading to symptoms like redness, swelling, and itching. This happens as the body immune system reacts to triggers such as allergens or irritants.

Betnovate contains betamethasone valerate, an anti-inflammatory medicine. When applied to the skin, it reduces inflammation and calms irritation. This helps relieve symptoms like redness and itching associated with eczema and psoriasis.

Betnovate alternatives

While Betnovate is an effective treatment for eczema and other inflammatory skin conditions, it may not be suitable for everyone. In such cases, your doctor may recommend other topical corticosteroids, such as:

  • Betamethasone cream & Ointment
  • Eumovate (clobetasone butyrate)
  • Hydrocortisone Cream
  • Elocon (mometasone furoate)
  • Fucidin H Cream
  • Dermovate (clobetasol propionate)

Betnovate ingredients

The active ingredient in Betnovate is betamethasone valerate.

In addition to the active ingredient, Betnovate Cream and Betnovate Ointment contain different inactive ingredients:

  • Betnovate Cream contains ingredients like chlorocresol, macrogol cetostearyl ether, cetostearyl alcohol, white soft paraffin, liquid paraffin, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, phosphoric acid, sodium hydroxide and purified
    water.

  • Betnovate Ointment contains soft white paraffin and liquid paraffin.
