Overview

What is Vagirux?

Vagirux is a vaginal tablet thats contains the active ingredient estradiol, a type of oestrogen used to treat symptoms of vaginal dryness caused by oestrogen deficiency during menopause, such as dryness, itching and discomfort. It belongs to a group of medicines called vaginal Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).

While Vagirux helps replenish the body’s oestrogen levels to treat vaginal dryness, it is not designed to treat other common menopause symptoms like night sweats, weight gain, or difficulty sleeping.

What is Vagirux used for?

Vagirux tablet is used to relieve symptoms of menopause in the vagina such as:

  • Vaginal dryness
  • Itching or burning
  • Pain during urination
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Discomfort or irritation in the vaginal area

How do Vagirux vaginal tablets work?

Vagirux vaginal tablets release a small amount of oestrogen (estradiol) directly into the vaginal tissues. This helps relieve symptoms like dryness and itching caused by low oestrogen after menopause.

By restoring oestrogen levels locally, Vagirux makes the vaginal tissue thicker, more elastic, and moisturized, improving comfort with minimal hormone absorption into the bloodstream.

Vagirux ingredients

Each Vagirux tablet contains 10 micrograms estradiol (as estradiol hemihydrate).

Other ingredients are: hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, maize starch and magnesium stearate.

The film-coating contains: hypromellose and macrogol.

Directions

How to use Vagirux tablets?

Dosage: For the first two weeks, insert one tablet daily. After two weeks, reduce to one vaginal tablet twice a week, leaving 3 to 4 days between each dose.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use Vagirux vaginal tablets:

  1. Remove the applicator from its sealed packaging.
  2. Prepare the applicator by gently pulling the plunger out until it stops.
  3. Take a vaginal tablet from the separate blister pack and place it firmly into the wide end of the applicator.
  4. Insert the applicator into your vagina carefully. Stop when you feel some resistance (about 8–10 cm inside).
  5. Release the tablet by pressing the plunger gently until it reaches the end. The tablet will stick to the wall of the vagina and won’t fall out if you stand or walk.
  6. After each use, remove the plunger, wash both parts with mild soap and warm water, shake off excess water, and let them air dry before reinserting the plunger for the next use.
  7. Dispose of the applicator after 24 uses by throwing it away in your household waste. A new applicator should be used each time you open a new pack of Vagirux.
