What is Lyclear Dermal Cream

Lyclear Dermal Cream is an effective topical treatment for crab lice and scabies. It treats the infestation of crab lice and scabies and even finishes their eggs. It is an easy to use formula providing a simple and effective solution to clear the infestation and provide relief.

Certain skin conditions can be caused by infestations of certain types of lice and mites and can create a great disturbance for the sufferer, with unpleasant and very uncomfortable symptoms. Two such conditions are crab lice and scabies, both of which can be contracted due to the skin being in close proximity with someone who already has them. If left untreated, they will continue to get worse, so must be dealt with as soon as symptoms are noticed.

Crab lice are also known as pubic lice and are tiny insects which are very similar to head lice. They live on coarse body hair, including:

  • Pubic hair
  • Leg hair
  • Underarm hair
  • Body hair on the chest, back and abdomen
  • Facial hair such as beards and moustaches
  • Eyebrows and even eyelashes

It can take a few weeks before symptoms will show themselves, which can include:

  • Itchiness where the infestation is, usually worse at night
  • Irritation and inflammation caused by scratching
  • Small spots of blood or blue spots on your skin in areas such as the lower abdomen, groin or thighs as a result of the lice biting you
  • A black powder found in your underwear

Scabies is a skin condition that is caused by very small mites burrowing into the skin and creating an itchy rash. The scabies mites responsible for the condition will typically lay their eggs in the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin), and after 3-4 days the eggs will hatch. The larvae which hatch will burrow their way to the surface of the skin in order to grow to adult age. These mites prefer warm parts of the body such as under the breasts, between the fingers, under fingernails and around the buttocks. They can also hide under jewellery such as watches, bracelets and rings.

It can take up to 8 weeks for the symptoms of scabies to appear with the main ones being itching, especially at night and a rash of tiny red spots. The rash will start out as small, silver burrow lines ending in a black dot and it will then turn into a series of small itchy spots which can cause crusty sores to develop after scratching. This rash is caused by the burrowing of the mites into the skin and the skin reaction to the droppings which are left behind.

The itchiness is as a result of an allergic reaction to the mite’s and lice saliva, which is worse at night because this is when they are most active.

How effective is Lyclear Dermal Cream Permethrin 5%?

Lyclear Dermal Cream should treat the infestation of crab lice or scabies with a single dose when used as directed – it should be left on the skin for a minimum of 8 hours without interruption.

The active ingredient, Permethrin (5% w/w), has been proven effective in clinical trials to eliminate the infestations of insects on the skin.

If the product does not work within this timeframe, treatment should be repeated after 14 days.

What dose should I choose?

Lyclear Dermal Cream Permethrin 5% comes in this dose only with the active ingredient permethrin at a concentration of 5%.

With regards to the physical amount applied, this will depend on the size of the area to be treated. However, it is likely, you will only need a single application in order to rid yourself of the infestation. If, after 14 days, you find it has not entirely cleared, you can reapply.

Always use the product as directed – you will receive full instructions within the packaging.

How should I use Lyclear Dermal Cream Permethrin 5%?

Treating scabies

Adults should apply the cream to every part of the body, including the neck, palms of hands and soles of feet. There is no need to cover the face and head unless it is noticeably affected by scabies mites.

Children should apply the cream to the whole body in an even layer, again including the neck, palms of hands and soles of feet but also to include the face, ears and scalp.

The cream should be left in place for a minimum of 8 hours which is often best achieved overnight. Avoid any washing at all, but if this cannot be avoided in certain areas, such as the hands or genitals, reapply the cream immediately afterwards.

Read the instructions carefully for the approximate dosage according to the age.

Treating crab lice (in adults)

Check any facial hair for the presence of live lice and eggs, including beards, moustaches, eyelashes and eyebrows. Apply the cream to everywhere affected except the eyelashes – instead, remove these ones with tweezers.

The cream should cover the pubic region, all the pubic hair, around the genitals and anus, on the inner thighs to the knees and on the lower abdomen.

A 30g tube should be more than enough to treat a hairy adult.

How does Lyclear Dermal Cream Permethrin 5% work?

Lyclear Dermal Cream has an active ingredient called Permethrin which is a pyrethroid. The medicines in this group are insecticides used to control infestations. They work by affecting the lice and mites’ nervous system causing muscle spasm, paralysis and subsequent death. It is toxic to insects as they are unable to break it down as humans can.

How long do I use Lyclear Dermal Cream Permethrin 5% for before I notice a difference?

Lyclear Dermal Cream can clear your infestation with a single application, provided it is used as directed.

If there are any symptoms which persist, signifying the infestation has not fully cleared, it can be reapplied after 14 days.

What are the side effects of Lyclear Dermal Cream Permethrin 5%?

As with all medicines, Lyclear Dermal Cream can have some side effects, although these are rare. It will most likely be as a result of an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients, and symptoms can include:

  • Itching
  • Redness of the skin or an odd sensation
  • Tingling, prickling or burning sensation
  • Skin dryness

Skin dryness is quite common, so moisturisers and bath oils are recommended post use. The itchiness may continue for up to 4 weeks after treatment because of the reaction to the killing of the scabies mites. If symptoms persist after treatment, speak to your doctor before you use it again.

Side effects can also occur if the product is misused, for example, if it gets into the eyes or is ingested, so always use as directed. If it does get into the eyes, flush out with lots of water.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, speak to your doctor before use.

When shouldn’t I use Lyclear Dermal Cream Permethrin 5%?

Lyclear Dermal Cream is suitable for use on all children over the age of 2 months old and adults. Seek medical advice for the treatment of lice and scabies for children under 2 months.

Do not use if you are allergic to the ingredients.

Speak to your doctor or healthcare professional before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes and flush out with water if contact occurs.

If the product is ingested, a doctor should be contacted immediately.

What is the difference between Lyclear Dermal Cream Permethrin 5% and Derbac M Liquid / Incognito Hair & Body Wash?

Derbac M Liquid uses a different active ingredient – malathion, and this product is suitable for scabies, crab lice and head lice too.

Incognito Hair & Body Wash is a natural soap-based product which deters lice and other mites from infesting the body.

How should I store Lyclear Dermal Cream Permethrin 5%?

Can I shower or have a bath before using Lyclear Dermal Cream Permethrin 5%?
