What is Otex Express

Otex ear drops are among the best to help with ear blockage. Their active ingredient is hydrogen peroxide.

Can I buy Otex Express online?

Otex Express does not require a prescription, although you are very welcome to book an appointment with a health expert at Click Pharmacy to discuss how best to use this product. It can be purchased online in a standalone 10ml bottle and will be sent directly to you by Next Day Delivery.

What dose should I choose?

Otex Express comes in a 10ml bottle. The standard recommended dose is 5 drops. The drops should be applied once or twice a day. Results typically appear within 3-4 days.

How Effective Is Otex Express?

Otex will typically show results within 3-4 days of the first application. Apply 5 drops, once or twice per day. In the event of no improvement, talk to your healthcare professional about alternatives.

How long do I need to apply Otex Express to work before I notice a difference?

Otex Express is designed to show improvements within 3-4 days of daily use.

If you ever notice any pain during or after application, speak to your doctor immediately.

Do not attempt to remove the wax using cotton buds or other pointed objects. The free Bulb Syringe should provide a suitable wax removal mechanism.

How should I apply Otex Express?

To apply Otex Express, perform the following steps:

  1. Open the bottle.

  2. Tilt your head onto the side.

  3. Squeeze up to 5 drops into the ear.

  4. Keep your head in position and leave for a few minutes.

  5. Wipe away any remaining fluid with a tissue.

  6. Repeat for your other ear if required.

  7. Wash hands after use.

Repeat the steps above once or twice a day as necessary to soften the wax.

After 3-4 days, you should notice an improvement and reduction in ear discomfort.

How does Otex Express work?

Earwax is naturally produced by the body to help protect the ear and drum. Occasionally the glands that produce ear wax may go into overdrive. The excess wax can build up and dry out. This can lead to the pain, discomfort and hearing issues.

Hardened wax can be difficult to remove. Otex Express, therefore, helps to soften this hard wax and ease its removal from the ears. The active ingredient – urea hydrogen peroxide – works by releasing the oxygen that breaks up the hardened wax. Antiseptic properties also help prevent the development of infection.

What are the side effects of Otex Express?

The most common side effects of Otex Express are:

  • Temporary mild bubbling sensation in the ear. This is caused by the bubbles of oxygen escaping as the drops react with the ear wax.

  • The drops can, in some cases, make existing excessive ear wax symptoms worse, including discomfort, irritation or pain, loss of hearing, dizziness, and tinnitus.

  • Very rarely, some patients have detected an unpleasant taste. If this happens, stop using the drops and contact your doctor.

If you suffer severe reactions with this medication, please seek immediate medical attention.

When shouldn’t I apply Otex Express?

Otex Express should not be used in the following situations:

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to any of the ingredients of Otex Express

  • if you have a history of ear problems unless used under the close supervision of your doctor, nurse or pharmacist.

  • if you are also putting anything else in the ear (such as other ear drops or a hearing aid).

  •  if your ear drum is (or has been) damaged.

  • if you suffer from dizziness.

  • if there is anything else wrong with your ear - such as pain, swelling, discharge, infection or tinnitus (ringing sounds in the ear).

  • if you have tried to remove the ear wax using fingernails, cotton buds or other implements. (This is because you might have damaged the delicate inner lining of the ear, leading to swelling or infection.) This could make it painful to use the ear drops.

  • if you have had your ear syringed in the last 2 to 3 days – this could also make it painful to use the eardrops.

Otex Express may be used during pregnancy and breast-feeding. The ingredients have been in widespread use in this and similar preparations for many years, without reports of problems. However, safety trials have not been conducted.

What is the difference between Otex Express and Olive Oil / Earex?

Otex Express makes use of urea hydrogen peroxide to soften the earwax and aid with its removal.

Olive oil is the traditional remedy used for many years. Olive oil can take 1-2 weeks to achieve results rather than Otex Express’ 3-4 days.

Earex contains two active ingredients. Choline salicylate is an NSAID (similar to aspirin) and provides pain relief while glycerine helps to soften ear wax for easy removal.

Just as with any other medicine, the most effective treatment will vary from person to person. Whichever you choose, make sure it does not cause any allergic reactions. If in doubt, seek medical advice.

Can I use Otex Express Ear Drops if I have a damaged ear drum?

You must not use Otex Express Ear Drops if you have a damaged ear drum.

Who should not use Otex Express Ear Drops?

Although Otex Express Ear Drops are generally safe to use, they are not suitable for everyone. You should not use Otex Express Ear Drops if you use any of the following:

  • A damaged ear drum
  • Use a hearing aid
  • Have ear problems
  • Have syrgined your ear in the past week
  • Using other ear drums
  • Get dizzy a lot

How should I store Otex Express Ear Drops?

You store Otex Express Ear Drops in a cool dry place, out of reach from children, and at room temperature. This product should not be exposed to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight.

Can I combine other ear drops with Otex Express Ear Drops?

You should not use Otex Express Ear Drops if you are already using any other form of ear drops. This is because the two eye drops combined may interfere with one another and cause harmful side effects.

After using Otex Express Ear Drops you are likely to experience a number of side effects. It is important to note that not everyone experiences the same side effects and side effects are often mild. Common side effects include the following:

  • Bubbling-like sensation in your ear. This is caused by Otex Express Ear Drops breaking wax into smaller pieces and releasing oxygen.
  • Discomfort in the ear
  • Irritation
  • Itching
  • Unpleasant taste in mouth

If any of these side effects worsen, you should stop using Otex Express Ear Drops immediately and seek medical advice as soon as possible.

Always read the patient information leaflet before starting your treatment. The patient information can be found here.
