What is Capasal
Capasal therapeutic Shampoo is formulated for the treatment of issues related to the scalp such as dry, scaly conditions including dandruff, eczema, psoriasis and cradle cap.
The scalp is one area of the body that can experience a whole host of issues, from dry and flaky skin to other more serious conditions. These can be as a result of the hair products we use, the exposure to the environment or even occur at random like other skin complaints.
Treating such conditions can prove challenging mainly due to the fact that it is covered in hair. As such, one of the most effective treatments is to use a specially formulated shampoo such as Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo. The active ingredients in this medicated product will help to treat various conditions including:
- Seborrhoeic dermatitis (also known as seborrhoeic eczema) – an inflammation of the scalp due to an excess amount of oil being secreted. This results in redness, scaly patches of skin and dandruff
- Cradle cap – seborrhoeic dermatitis in newborn babies
- Psoriasis of the scalp – psoriasis is often caused when skin cells are produced at a higher than average rate and can cause redness, scaly patches and dandruff like seborrhoeic dermatitis
- Dandruff – dry, flaky skin
It can also be used to remove any products which have previously been applied to the scalp to treat one of the above conditions.
Skin conditions of the scalp can not only look unsightly (which can cause issues in confidence of the sufferer), it can also be uncomfortable as the irritation can become itchy. Getting to the root of the problem to not only alleviate the symptoms but also to remove the condition as much as possible is important. The blend of ingredients in Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo works to improve the issue and will make it look and feel better when used as directed.
How should I use Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo?
Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo is for external use only, to be used on the scalp and to wash hair as you would with any other shampoo. Wet all of your hair thoroughly and then massage a small amount of the shampoo into your scalp to produce a rich and foamy lather. Leave the product on your hair and scalp for several minutes before rinsing well with plenty of clean water. Repeat this process a second time for the best results. Ensure the product is fully rinsed out of your hair and then dry as usual.
Avoid contact with the eyes, as this can cause irritation. If this occurs, flush out as soon as possible by rinsing with lots of clean water.
What dose should I choose?
Although Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo is medicated, it does not have a specific dose as such. Instead, there are directions for use which will guide you on the amount you should use with each application. It can be used daily for as long as is required to reduce or eradicate the symptoms of the different skin complaints that can occur on the scalp.
The quantities of the active ingredients found in Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo are as follows:
- Salicylic Acid – 0.5%
- Coconut Oil – 1.0%
- Distilled Coal Tar – 1.0%
How effective is Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo?
Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo has been specially formulated and has proven results in treating a whole range of scalp conditions to not only improve the way it looks but also the way it feels. From the first use of Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo, you will find the skin on your head feels a little better, and if used as directed – as often as every day – your symptoms should reduce drastically. Over time, some sufferers see their conditions disappear entirely.
How does Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo work?
Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo has a blend of active ingredients, which all serve different purposes when treating skin conditions on the scalp. Its combination of coal tar (which gives it the golden brown colour and distinct aroma), salicylic acid, and coconut oil are all proven treatments for skin complaints.
- Coal tar – this mildly antiseptic ingredient will relieve the itching you are experiencing and will also help to reduce the excess thickening, hardening and scaling of the skin in the affected area.
- Salicylic acid – this works to reduce any shedding of the excess skin cells which are found at the site of the affliction.
- Coconut oil – this natural lubricant will soften and moisturise the skin in the affected area to prevent tightness and promote healing.
How long do I use Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo for before I notice a difference?
Symptoms of dry, itchy scalp and seborrheic dermatitis could start to reduce after a single use of Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo, as its active ingredients will start to work immediately. They will combat the irritation which causes the itchiness and will moisturise the affected area, so you will continue to see improvements as time goes on.
If used regularly and as directed, symptoms can completely disappear within a short space of time. This shampoo, whilst medicated, is gentle enough to use as regularly as every day if required. Continued use will help to stop any conditions and symptoms from returning and will allow you to have a healthy scalp all the time.
What are the side effects of Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo?
As with any medicated product, there can be some side effects. These are mostly as a result of an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients or, in rare cases, could be a skin irritation and could also be as a result of product misuse, for example, if it gets into the eyes.
Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo should not come in contact with the eyes, and if that does occur, flush it out immediately with plenty of clean water.

What is the difference between Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo and Eucerin Dry Itchy Scalp Shampoo / T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo?
There are many other products available to assist with skin conditions of the scalp, including Eucerin Dry Itchy Scalp Shampoo and T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo.
Eucerin Dry Itchy Scalp shampoo contains a different blend of active ingredients and moisturisers, including urea and lactate, that reduce moisture loss from the affected area. It also uses Polidocanol to provide a soothing effect to the dry, itchy areas.
T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo comes in a much smaller bottle, and daily use is not recommended – 2-3 times per week instead. It contains just one active ingredient, unlike Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo, which has three, but it is coal tar, which is proven to alleviate the symptoms of scalp conditions, so is effective. The high percentage of active ingredients found in the product means it is not suitable for those under the age of 12.
