What is Nizoral Shampoo

Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo is a very effective way to control dandruff.  It is specially developed to be gentle and is safe enough to be used on colour-treated, chemically processed and grey hair. It contains the active ingredient ketoconazole in a concentration of 2%. It is a red-orange liquid for topical application as a foaming shampoo. Ketoconazole is an anti-fungal used on the skin, nails, and scalp to treat infections such as those caused by dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis (dry, flaky, red, and itchy scalp), ringworm, and athlete’s foot. It works by stopping the fungus from forming its normal cell walls and thus stopping its growth.

How does Nizoral Shampoo work?

Ketoconazole is an anti-fungal used on the skin, nails, and scalp to treat infections such as those caused by seborrheic dermatitis (dry or greasy scaling of the scalp), dandruff, ringworm, and athlete’s foot. Everyone’s skin has natural yeasts; however, in some people, there may be a flare-up with an increased number of yeasts called Malassezia.

Nizoral Shampoo works by stopping the fungus from forming its standard cell walls and thus stopping the growth of the fungus. It is essential to use the product for the recommended time so that all the fungal spores or yeast cells are eliminated, even if the infection and inflammation seem to have disappeared beforehand.

How long do I use Nizoral Shampoo for before I notice a difference?

The signs of infection or inflammation may disappear even before the treatment period is over. This is why Nizoral Shampoo should be used for the recommended duration of treatment, regardless of how the skin/scalp appears. This is to ensure that all the fungus has been removed from the area and therefore prevent the infection from returning.

The treatment will usually last from 2 to 4 weeks, and the shampoo should be applied twice every day. If the product is being used as a preventative measure, then it should be applied once every one or two weeks.

What is the difference between Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and Head & Shoulders Shampoo

The difference between Nizoral Shampoo and its competitor is that the active ingredient in Nizoral acts at the root of the problem, removing fungi and yeasts that are causing the infection and irritation. Surface or cosmetic products remove dandruff and soothe the scalp on the surface but do not prevent the problem from recurring.

Can I buy Nizoral Shampoo online?

Nizoral Shampoo is available to buy online without a prescription from a doctor. However, you are welcome to book an appointment with a health expert at Click Pharmacy to discuss how best to use this product. It is available in 100ml and 200ml bottles.

What dose should I choose?

Nizoral Shampoo is only available in one dose, which contains 2% ketoconazole.

How effective Is Nizoral Shampoo?

Nizoral Shampoo contains the antifungal ketoconazole in a concentration of 20mg/g or 2%. Ketoconazole provides a direct action that treats and prevents fungal infection by attacking the source of the problem and preventing the fungus from proliferating. It also prevents the reoccurrence of the infection by soothing the inflammation caused by the fungal infection. Nizoral Shampoo is also used in the treatment of tinea versicolor (‘sun fungus’), where white marks are seen on the skin after exposure to the sun.

It is commonly used on the scalp to treat and prevent dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis – therefore, symptoms of a red, flaky, dry, and itchy scalp. In some cases, the scalp may also have oily areas, and this inflammation can occur on the face, such as the sides of the nose, eyebrows, ears, and eyelids. It may also occur on the chest.

Ketoconazole acts by interfering with the synthesis of a vital component of fungal cell walls. This means that the fungus will not be able to reproduce and will soon die off, removing its effect of infection of the skin. It acts against several fungi and yeasts. Development of resistance to Nizoral Shampoo by these microorganisms has not been reported.

How should I use Nizoral Shampoo?

Apply the shampoo to a wet scalp. You should then gently massage a generous amount of Nizoral Shampoo into your hair and allow it to sit for around 3-5 minutes. After 5 minutes you should wash the shampoo out with lukewarm water and use your regular conditioner.

Nizoral Shampoo should be used for the recommended duration of treatment, even if the symptoms seem to have disappeared before the treatment period is over. This is to ensure that the fungus, including fungal spores, has been removed and prevent the infection from returning. The treatment will usually last from 2 to 4 weeks, and the shampoo should be applied twice every day. If the product is being used to prevent infection and inflammation, then it should be applied once every one or two weeks.
