What is Stugeron
Stugeron (Cinnarizine) is an effective solution for nausea and other symptoms related to travel sickness. Stugeron tablets contain an active ingredient called cinnarizine. Cinnarizine is an antihistamine, which works to alleviate the symptoms of travel sickness, whatever the cause may be. When the signals in the brain become confused, the body can begin to produce a natural substance known as histamine, which in turn tells your body to feel or be sick. Cinnarizine blocks the histamine receptors in the brain’s vomiting centre, so it can no longer tell your stomach to feel sick, and thereby ease the symptoms of your travel sickness.
Travel sickness can be an uncomfortable experience for many people. It usually occurs when you are travelling by boat, car, aeroplane or train, and is caused by the inner ear sending different signals to your brain from those that your eyes are seeing. For example, you could be moving up and down on a boat as it travels through the waves, yet your brain thinks that you are standing still. This confusion can cause you to feel unwell.
The symptoms of travel sickness can include:
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Vertigo
- Vomiting
- Tinnitus (a ringing sensation in the ears)
How should I take Stugeron tablets?
Stugeron tablets should be taken with water, and preferably after a meal, as this will make it more unlikely to upset your stomach.
The tablets can either be swallowed, chewed or sucked.
The amount of medication needed will differ depending upon your age.
You must follow the dosage instructions carefully and should not exceed the stated dose. If you take too many Stugeron tablets, you should contact a doctor or the nearest Accident and Emergency department, taking the instructions and the packet with you.
Should you forget to take a dose, then you may take another tablet provided that you leave 8 hours.
How do Stugeron tablets work?
Stugeron tablets contain the active ingredient cinnarizine - an antihistamine that helps to reduce feelings of nausea during travel. It blocks the vomiting centre in the brain from receiving any signals from the vestibular apparatus.
How effective are Stugeron tablets?
Stugeron tablets are one of the most effective travel sickness treatments available on the market, providing relief for symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, vertigo, vomiting, and tinnitus
Stugeron works gradually, and from the time that you take your tablet, you should expect to wait between 2.5 and 4 hours before the treatment reaches its full effect.

Do not exceed the stated dose.

How long do I use Stugeron tablets for before I notice a difference?

What is the difference between Stugeron tablets and Scopoderm travel sickness patches and acupressure bands?
There are other travel sickness treatments available, including Scopoderm patches and acupressure bands.
Scopoderm patches contain a substance called hyoscine hydrobromide, which is one of the most widely used medications to treat the symptoms associated with travel sickness. Whilst the patches are discrete and easy to apply, they are only suitable for children aged ten and less, whereas children as young as five can take Stugeron tablets.
Acupressure bands are a non-medical alternative travel sickness remedy, which are placed in between the two tendons on the inner arm. There are no adverse side effects when it comes to using an acupressure band. However, there is little scientific evidence to support that they are an effective treatment for motion sickness symptoms.
Who should not use Stugeron Tablets?
You should not use Stugeron Tablets if you have any of the following:
- Allergy to cinnarizine
- Allergy to any of the inactive ingredients
- Parkinson’s disease
- Liver problems
- Kidney problems
- Lactose intolerance
- Sucrose intolerance
- Porphyria
How should I store Stugeron Tablets?
You should store Stugeron Tablets in a cool dry place, out of reach from children, and at room temperature. These tablets should not be exposed to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight.
Does taking Stugeron Tablets affect my ability to drive or operate machinery safely?
