What is Avomine
Avomine tablets are a convenient and easy medication used to prevent and treat the nausea and vomiting associated with travel sickness.
Avomine tablets contain the active ingredient, promethazine, an antihistamine which works by blocking the action of histamine from binding its receptors to an area of the brain known as the vomiting centre.
When travelling by car or boat, for example, the constant movement can cause too many signals to be sent to the brain’s vomiting centre, resulting in symptoms such as nausea, vertigo and vomiting. The promethazine works to block the action of histamine in the vomiting centre, thereby preventing the feelings of nausea.
Avomine tablets are suitable for use by adults and children aged 5 years and older.
What dose should I choose?
Adults and children over 10 years
To prevent travel sickness on longer journeys, 1 tablet should be taken each night before bed, starting with the night before travel.
- To prevent travel sickness on shorter journeys, 1 tablet should be taken 1 to 2 hours before commencing travel.
- To treat travel sickness, take 1 tablet as soon as symptoms appear, followed up with a second tablet in the evening. If necessary, you can also take a third tablet on the next evening.
Children aged 5 to 10
- To prevent travel sickness on longer journeys, half a tablet should be taken each night before bed, starting with the night before travel.
- To prevent travel sickness on shorter journeys, half a tablet should be taken 1 to 2 hours before commencing travel.
- To treat travel sickness, half a tablet should be taken as soon as symptoms appear, followed up with a second tablet in the evening. If necessary, a third tablet can also be taken on the next evening.
To treat vomiting, sickness or vertigo that is not caused by travel sickness, one tablet (or half a tablet if between 5-10 years old) should be taken three times a day.
Do not exceed the stated dose.
If you forget to take a dose, do not double up the dose. Instead, take a tablet as soon as you remember and then continue in accordance with the instructions.
Avomine tablets are not suitable for children under the age of five.
If you are pregnant, might become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed, speak to your doctor or a pharmacist at Click Pharmacy before using these tablets.
Please read all the instructions before using the product and ensure they are followed properly. You will find instructions in the packaging when the product arrives.
How should I use Avomine tablets?
Avomine tablets can be taken both with or without food in accordance with the dosage instructions.
You should not take Avomine for longer than seven consecutive days without seeking medical advice. If symptoms persist or get any worse, consult your doctor.
How do Avomine tablets work?
Avomine Tablets contain the active ingredient promethazine. This is an antihistamine that helps reduce feelings of nausea during travel by preventing nerve signals from reaching the receptors in the vomiting centre of the brain.
How long do I use Avomine tablets for before I notice a difference?
The promethazine contained in Avomine tablets will work gradually. From the time that you take your tablet, it can take up to 4 to 6 hours for the medicine to reach its maximum effect.
You should follow the dosage instructions carefully to ensure the best results from your medication.

What is the difference between Avomine tablets and Bach Rescue Remedy and Scopoderm Patches?
There are other travel sickness treatments available, including Bach Rescue Remedy and Scopoderm patches.
Bach Rescue Remedy is a herbal treatment that comes in either a spray, as drops or as pastilles. Whilst it is designed to relieve stress and calm the nerves, it does not contain any actual medication that is effective for symptoms of travel sickness.
Scopoderm patches contain a substance called hyoscine hydrobromide, which is one of the most widely used medications to treat the symptoms associated with travel sickness. Whilst the patches are discrete and easy to apply, they are only suitable for children aged 10 and over, whereas Avomine tablets can be taken by children as young as 5.
How effective are Avomine tablets?
Avomine tablets are one of the most effective treatments available to combat the symptoms of travel sickness, such as nausea, dizziness, vertigo, vomiting and tinnitus (ringing in the ears).
