What is Dermatix

Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel is a formula which is proven to reduce scars when used as directed, so it is the perfect solution for sufferers of scarring. It will work on all types of scar tissues both on new and old scars with regular use.

When the skin suffers certain traumas such as surgery, wounds or burns, it needs to heal. This happens via the skin producing scar tissue, which can have a different appearance to normal skin. It can be red and raised and tougher than that which was originally found there.

Scars generally take two forms – keloid and hypertrophic.

Keloid scars are raised and tend to be red, pink or even darker than the surrounding skin. They often develop after only minor skin trauma such as a spot or a piercing and can continue to grow thereafter.

Hypertrophic scars are often wide and raised and can be thickened skin too. They form at the exact place where your skin has suffered trauma, and again, they can be overproduced.

Whilst scarring is actually the body’s positive response to a wound or some other kind of trauma and shows its ability to improve the durability of the skin that was there before, some people find them unsightly and would seek to actively improve their appearance.

How does Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel work?

Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel uses a combination of silicon dioxide and polysiloxanes to treat the scar tissue and improve its appearance. The silicone barrier, which is created once the product is applied and dried, will protect the scar from infection (bacteria and infections can slow the healing process by causing increased inflammation) and will also improve its hydration by keeping moisture within the skin (water is required for the skin to heal itself). It is even thought to repel the cell types, which will promote the scar to grow to limit its size. Silicone also allows the skin to breathe whilst it heals and can result in a softer and flatter scar.

How effective is Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel?

Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel has performed well in tests which have shown it will soften, smooth and flatten down the scar tissue which has formed at the site of the injury. In addition, it has also been shown to reduce the amount of itching experienced when the skin heals and will also relieve some of the discomfort associated with the healing process. The colour of the scarred skin will also improve. The key benefits of using this product are:

  • Softening and flattening of raised scars
  • Red or darker scars will fade
  • Itching and discomfort felt in the scar area will be relieved

In order to experience these benefits in full, it is recommended for use for a minimum of 2 months and even beyond that if positive effects are still being seen and if the scar is older.

What dose should I choose?

Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel comes in this dosage only and is recommended to be used twice per day. It is available to purchase in different quantities if you require more.

Its active ingredients are polysiloxanes and silicon dioxide, and these should be treated with caution and only used as directed – always follow the instructions for use. A thin layer should be applied to the skin twice per day, and it should remain in situ for 24 hours per day. If it takes longer than 4 to 5 minutes to dry after application, you have applied too much, and the excess should be removed carefully.

Always use as directed and avoid contact with the eyes.

How should I use Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel?

Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel comes in a 15g tube which has a fine nozzle in order to allow you to administer the right amount of product in the correct location safely.

The full instructions for use will be found within the product packaging, but you will need to:

  • Wash the area to be treated with gentle soap and water, and then carefully pat the skin dry
  • Spread a very thin and even coat over the whole area to be treated
  • Allow the product to air dry on the skin for 4 to 5 minutes (if the product is not dry within this time period, you have applied too much. Carefully remove the excess and then allow the remainder to dry. Please note if Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel comes into contact with clothing whilst it is still wet, it may cause staining)
  • Once the product is fully dry, you can cover it with clothing or makeup as desired
  • This process should be repeated twice daily for a minimum of 2 months in order to see the full benefits

Please note that Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel should never be used on broken skin. You also need to be extremely careful if applying it to the eye area to avoid contact with the eyes. If contact does occur, flush out immediately with lots of clean water.

How long do I use Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel for before I notice a difference?

Some users of Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel may find that the appearance of their scars starts to improve after just a couple of weeks of continued use when used as directed. However, it is more likely it will take in excess of 4 to 5 weeks and a minimum of 2 months of application to ensure you get the best results. For scars older (as old as 2 years), it is advisable to continue using for longer until the positive effects stop being seen.

What are the side effects of Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel?

As with any medicine, there is the possibility that certain side effects can be experienced. These are usually rare and are generally as a result of an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients found therein. Side effects could include skin redness, irritation, and discomfort or pain. If you experience any of these side effects, discontinue use immediately. If your symptoms get worse or do not disappear after a couple of days, speak to your doctor or medical professional to get their advice.

If you would like to discuss any of the potential side effects in advance of your purchase, please speak to the experts at Click Pharmacy, who will be happy to advise you.

When shouldn’t I use Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel?

You should not use Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel if you are allergic to any of the ingredients, which are silicon dioxide and polysiloxanes.

The product is generally safe for use in adults and children and should also not cause any issues for women who are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or who are breastfeeding but consult with your doctor before use.

Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel is for topical, external use only, and contact with the eyes and mucous membranes must be avoided. If contact does occur, flush out with clean water immediately.

The product should not be used on any open wounds or broken skin of any kind.

Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel should not be applied to skin which already had an antibiotic skin preparation on it or that which has had any other skin treatment or product applied.

It should always be applied to clean and dry skin.

What is the difference between Dermatix Scar Reduction Silicone Gel and Retin-C Vitamin Scar Treatment Oil O9 / Solution for Scars™?

There are several other products in the market which can help with the appearance of scars. An example of two are Retin-C Vitamin Scar Treatment Oil O9 and Science of Skin Solution for Scars™.

Retin-C Vitamin Scar Treatment Oil O9 comes in an oil format rather than a gel and needs to be massaged into the skin. It does not use silicon as its active treatment ingredient. The active ingredients in this product are retinol oils and vitamins C and E, which will help to promote skin healing.

Solution for Scars uses a Green Tea Phytochemical (EGCG), which works to reduce the thickening of the skin and scar tissue and will also help to reduce the redness in the area.

Does using Dermatix Silicone Gel for Scar Treatment provide relief from pain caused by scars?

Yes, using Dermatix Silicone Gel for Scar Treatment provides relief from pain and discomfort caused by scars.
