  • Your headache is getting worse or occurs more often than usual and you have not consulted your doctor regarding them;
  • A doctor has been consulted and you suffer from basilar, ophtalmoplegic or hemiplegic migraine;
  • Your migraine related headache started after the age of 40 and you have not consulted your doctor regarding them;
  • Your headache presents as excruciating pain in one side of your head, often felt around the eye;

  • Uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure);
  • Peripheral vascular disease;
  • Previous cerebrovascular (brain related) accident;
  • Previous myocardial infarction;
  • Previous transient ischaemic attack;
  • Liver or kidney problem;
  • Epilepsy or history of seizures;
  • Any other serious medical condition that may require immediate hospitalisation;
  • Any heart disease or heart related problem;
  • Ischemic bowel disease;
  • Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrom ;
  • History of coronary artery disease or coronary artery vasospasm;

  • Pizotifen;
  • Propranolol;
  • The combined oral contraceptive pill (not the progesterone only ‘mini’ pill);
  • Medicines for high blood pressure;
  • Ergotamine or other ergot medicines;
  • Antidepressants (MAOI’s) e.g. Moclobemide, Isocarboxazid...;
  • Antidepressants e.g. Amitriptyline, Citalopram, Fluoxetine, Sertraline, Venlafaxine, Tramadol...;
