What is Levonelle Tablets (Pills)
Levonelle is a type of emergency contraception known as a morning-after pill. Despite being known as the ‘morning after pill’ it can be effective at preventing pregnancy for up to three days after unprotected sex, though the sooner it is taken the more effective it is likely to be.
Levonelle is most effective when taken within 12 hours of unprotected sex, although it can be effective for up to 72 hours after sex. You should bear in mind, however, that this effectiveness decreases over time.
Levonelle is thought to prevent:
- up to 95% of pregnancies if taken within 24 hours
- up to 85% of pregnancies if taken within 48 hours
- up to 58% of pregnancies if taken within 72 hours
Why choose Levonelle?
Levonelle gives you the confidence and peace of mind of knowing that you will not get pregnant in an affordable tablet form which is quick and simple to take. It is all too easy to find yourself in the worrying position of fearing you may get pregnant either from having unprotected sex or due to your usual method of contraception letting you down such as a split condom or a missed contraceptive pill. If you are not ready to have a baby yet then Levonelle can be used to prevent an unplanned pregnancy and let you take back control over your body.
Can I buy Levonelle online?
Buying Levonelle online is safe and discreet and can be sent out for next day delivery meaning you can take it well within the 72 hour time limit if ordered right away.
We are registered and regulated by the MHRA to provide online consulting and prescribing service meaning that, after filling in a brief medical questionnaire, we can assess your suitability for Levonelle and get it prescribed and delivered to you right away.
This pill comes in two pack sizes both of which can be ordered here directly.
How effective is Levonelle
This particular form of emergency contraception is up to 95% effective if taken within 24 hours of an episode of unsafe intercourse. Naturally, its effectiveness decreases when treatment is delayed.
When taken between 25-48 hours after sex, it is 85% effective and when treatment does not occur until between 49-72 hours after sex, its effectiveness falls to 58%. If it works, it can take the stress and worry out of a potentially life-changing incident.
If you are concerned about finding yourself in an emergency situation without access to a pharmacy it is possible to get the morning after pill and keep it on standby.
What shall I do if I vomit after taking Levonelle?
Being sick or suffering from diarrhoea can stop the treatment working. As such, if you experience either within three hours of taking Levonelle you will need to take a second dose.
What dose should I choose?
Levonelle is prescribed as a single 1500mg dose of levonorgestrel though it can be bought in a pack of two. This second tablet may be worth having in the case of vomiting after taking the first or to give you peace of mind that you have a dose to hand in case of a similar situation occurring again in the future.
Is it normal to bleed or for my periods to be delayed after taking Levonelle?
It is normal to experience irregular bleeding after taking the morning after pill. It may only be spotting or more ongoing bleeding and it may continue until your following period, but if the bleeding becomes excessive or does not stop even after the window of your regular period then do visit your GP as soon as possible.
The period following the morning after pill can be delayed due to the hormones in Levonelle. Generally, women have their regular period which begins at the expected time but some people do experience a delay of up to five days. If this is the case then it is important to see your GP who can test to see if you may be pregnant If your period is very heavy or very light it is also recommended you visit your doctor for a checkup and to ensure you are not pregnant.
How should I take Levonelle?
You can take Levonelle with or without food and water but it must be taken within the first 12 to 24 hours for optimum results, and no later than 72 hours after an incidence of unprotected intercourse.
If you have passed the 72 hour window, then it is not too late. Instead, you can try EllaOne, which can be taken up to 120 hours after.
How does Levonelle work?
Levonelle contains a high dose of the hormone progestin which is usually found in a normal contraceptive pill and it is this active ingredient which enables it to stop an unwanted pregnancy from occurring.
Depending on what stage of your menstrual cycle you’re in, it works by either:
- inhibiting the release of an egg from the ovary during ovulation
- interfering with the fertilisation of the egg.
What are the side effects of Levonelle?
Levonelle has been found to be entirely safe in medical tests though, as, with any medication, there can be side effects.
In the case of Levonelle it can cause:
- abdominal pain
- irregular bleeding
Less commonly women experience:
- breast tenderness
On the rarest occasions, women can experience an allergic reaction to Levonelle which can be seen as swelling of the face and/or an itchy rash.
Of the less severe after effects, symptoms are not long-lasting but if you are concerned about them or if they do not disappear after 48 hours it is wise to seek guidance from your GP.
Certainly if you experience the symptoms of an allergic reaction you must consult your doctor or one of our specialists at Click Pharmacy right away.
