What is Colofac IBS

Colofac IBS tablets offer effective and reliable relief from the uncomfortable and often painful symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). These can include:

  • Stomach cramps
  • Bloating
  • Diarrhoea
  • Constipation
  • Trapped wind
  • Small, hard stools or ribbon-like faeces

IBS is a prevalent complaint that causes spasms or pains in the gut. If the intestine goes into spasm mode and squeezes too tightly, it will be painful.

Colofac tablets contain the active ingredient, mebeverine. Mebeverine belongs to a group of medicines that are called antispasmodics. It works to treat involuntary muscle spasms and movements, relieving the pain that is associated with IBS.

Colofac IBS tablets are not suitable for use by those under 18.

How do Colofac IBS tablets work?

Colofac tablets contain an active ingredient called Mebeverine. Mebeverine belongs to a group of medicines called antispasmodics, and it works to treat involuntary muscle spasms and movements in the intestines, thereby relieving the pain and discomfort that is associated with IBS.

How effective are Colofac IBS tablets?

Colofac IBS tablets are an effective treatment to bring relief to the symptoms of IBS, such as bowel cramps, bloating, trapped wind, and diarrhoea or constipation.

As well as taking Colofac tablets, patients can help to alleviate their symptoms of IBS by making certain lifestyle changes. For example, modifying their diets to avoid certain foods that are known to aggravate IBS. This could be dairy products for some, but it will, of course, differ from patient to patient.

It is also considered that regular exercise can help to relieve some of the symptoms of IBS, such as a brisk walk or cycling.

Relaxation and lowering stress levels through activities such as meditation are also thought to help alleviate some of the symptoms of IBS.

How should I take Colofac IBS Tablets?

Colofac IBS tablets should be swallowed whole with a drink of water.

Tablets should not be chewed, as they are coated and designed to break down in the gut in a controlled manner. Chewing the tablet will interfere with the effects of the medication.

You should try to take your tablets approximately 20 minutes before a meal. This is because some people report that their symptoms feel the strongest after having eaten.

If your symptoms persist or worsen, then you should consult your doctor for further advice and investigation of any other underlying problems.

What dose should I choose?

Colofac IBS tablets are not suitable for children and adolescents, and they should only be taken by adults aged 18 and over.

Adults over 18 years of age should take one capsule three times a day. However, this dosage can be reduced if your symptoms start to improve.

Do not take more than three Colofac tablets within a 24-hour period.

Do not exceed the stated dose. If you do accidentally take more Colofac tablets than you should, contact your doctor or pharmacist, or attend the nearest hospital straight away, taking your medicine packet with you.

Should you forget to take your dose of Colofac tablets, wait until the next dose is due. Do not double up the amount of your medication to make up for a missed dose.

Before taking Colofac tablets, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant,

are trying to become pregnant or think that you may be pregnant. You should also advise if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed.

You should read all the instructions thoroughly before using the product and ensure that they are correctly followed. You will find instructions in the packaging when the product arrives.

How long do I use Colofac IBS tablets for before I notice a difference?

The mebeverine in your Colofac tablets should begin to ease your symptoms in around one hour, and you should start to feel better one to three hours after taking your medication.

You can continue to take this treatment until your symptoms resolve. Once your IBS has settled down, stop taking the tablets. This is typically within a one to two-week time period.

You should speak to your doctor if your symptoms have not improved after two weeks.

Side effects

After taking Colofac IBS Tablets you are unlikely to experience any side effects. This is because these tablets do not interfere with anything else within the body. If you experience any of the following:

  • Itching

These side effects may be signs of an allergic reaction to the drug, in this case you should stop using Colofac IBS Tablets immediately and seek medical advice, from a GP or pharmacist, as soon as possible.
