What is Amorolfine Nail Lacquer?

Amorolfine Nail Lacquer is a topical treatment used to treat fungal infections of the fingernails and toenails. It contains 5% amorolfine hydrochloride, which works by damaging the cell walls of the fungus and stopping it from growing.

It usually applied once or twice a week and is a convenient option for treating mild to moderate nail infections without the need for oral medication.

How does Amorolfine work?

Amorolfine works by targeting the fungus that causes nail infections. Its active ingredient, amorolfine hydrochloride, stops the production of ergosterol, which is an important part of the fungal cell membrane. When ergosterol is reduced, the fungal cell walls become weak and damaged, stopping the fungus from growing and spreading.

When you apply the lacquer to your infected nails, it forms a protective layer that helps the medicine penetrate deep into the nail. Over time, this kills the fungus and allows healthy nails to grow back.

Alternatives to Amorolfine

If Amorolfine Nail Lacquer isn’t suitable for you, there are other treatment options for fungal nail infections. One option is Loceryl, a branded version of Amorolfine that contains the same active ingredient, amorolfine hydrochloride 5%, and works in the same way to stop fungal growth.

Another option is Trosyl Nail Solution, which has a different active ingredient called ciclopirox olamine 8%. This stops the fungus by damaging its cell membrane.

For more serious infections, doctors may prescribe Terbinafine tablets with terbinafine hydrochloride 250 mg. This oral medicine works inside the body to block a key part of the fungus’s cell wall, helping to clear the infection.

Directions

How to use Amorolfine Nail Lacquer

To get the best results from Amorolfine Nail Lacquer, it’s important to follow the instructions carefully and use it regularly.

Before you start, clean the nails and gently file the infected areas using a new nail file. Always use a different file for healthy nails to prevent spreading the infection. You can file the nail again before each new application if needed.

Apply the lacquer once or twice a week, as directed by your doctor. Dip the applicator into the bottle and paint a thin layer over the infected areas of the nail. Be sure to apply it to all infected nails on the same day. Let the lacquer dry for 3 to 5 minutes.

After each use, clean the applicator with a swab to avoid spreading the fungus. Avoid wiping the applicator on the bottle’s edge.

Once the lacquer dries, it is not removed by washing your hands or showering.

Continue using the lacquer regularly until your nail fully recovers. This can take about 6 months for fingernails and up to 12 months for toenails. If there is no improvement after 3 months, consult your doctor.
