What is SilDerm Scar Spray

SilDerm Scar Spray is a formula designed to help improve the appearance of scars and can be used on both old and new ones. If you wish to reduce the appearance of your scar when you have had it for a while or to help it to heal and fade more quickly when it is more recent, SilDerm Scar Spray will be perfect for you. It is an easy to apply, quick-drying formula that can deliver results in a comparatively short space of time.

A scar is created when your skin becomes damaged in some way, through an injury, wound or other affliction. When the skin heals, it knits back together with the formulation of scar tissue. This will be different in appearance to the original skin and is often red and raised, which can affect some people. If you are trying and looking to reduce the appearance of your scars, SilDerm Scar Spray can facilitate this with regular and continued use.

SilDerm Scar Spray is also known to reduce pain in the affected area and can also reduce the itching associated with healing skin.

How effective is SilDerm Scar Spray?

The active ingredient in SilDerm Scar Spray is 100% silicone, and it is this ingredient which helps to improve the appearance of scars. Silicone’s effectiveness in reducing the appearance of scars has been proven in clinical trials.

When sprayed on the target area, the silicone creates a thin layer over the scar and helps it to heal by smoothing and flattening the skin. This action will reduce the redness in the affected area and will also cause the scar tissue to shrink, which will help to improve its appearance.

SilDerm Scar Spray is particularly useful on newer scars, with results being seen within a few months, if not weeks. When used on newer wounds, the silicone also acts as a protective barrier in order to prevent bacteria from entering the injury, which will assist the healing process.

Older scars may take slightly longer to improve in appearance, but this product is safe to use for long periods of time.

SilDerm Scar Spray can be used to treat different types of scars, including hypertrophic, keloid, acne (raised, not indented) and burn, amongst other types of widespread scars.

Can I buy SilDerm Scar Spray?

SilDerm Scar Spray does not require a prescription in order to purchase it. However, anyone buying it must be aged 16 years or older. This product is readily available to buy online via retail outlets such as Click Pharmacy. If required, next day delivery is available – just select this delivery method in the checkout process.

What dose should I choose?

SilDerm Scar Spray is made from 100% medical grade silicones and is available in this dose only. The amount to be applied to the skin will depend on the size of the area being treated, so please read the instructions for full guidance on how to use it.

How should I use SilDerm Scar Spray?

SilDerm Scar Spray comes in a bottle with a sprayable nozzle for ease of use. Clean the required area of skin to be treated and then apply SilDerm Scar Spray by spraying a light coating. Allow it to dry before covering with any clothing. Repeat this process twice a day for a minimum of three months (longer for older scars) or until the scar tissue has stopped improving in appearance.

How does SilDerm Scar Spray work?

The active ingredient in SilDerm Scar Spray - 60ml is 100% medical-grade silicone, and this has been proven to be significantly effective at both preventing and healing scars in clinical trials. Silicone acts a protective barrier on the scar tissue, preventing it from losing water and therefore stopping bacteria from entering. When damaged skin is healing, it requires water, as the cracks that are created by dry skin can allow bacteria to enter. If bacteria gets in, this can not only slow down the healing process but it can also cause further inflammation or infection.

How long do I use SilDerm Scar Spray for before I notice a difference?

The appearance of scars should be improved within the first few weeks of use of SilDerm Scar Spray if used as directed on newer injuries. Continued use for a minimum of three months is recommended to see the full benefit or until you stop seeing any improvement in the scar.

Larger or older scars may take longer to see the same level of improvement, so continue to use until there are no further improvements seen.

What are the side effects of SilDerm Scar Spray?

As with other treatments for the skin, this product may cause side effects. If the scar or skin around it becomes inflamed and red, if it swells or itches, stop using SilDerm Scar Spray immediately. If these symptoms persist for longer than a few days or continue to get worse, speak to your pharmacist or doctor. Any side effects experienced may vary from patient to patient, so speak to your doctor or consult one of our trained experts at Click Pharmacy, who will be happy to offer you any further advice.

When shouldn’t I use SilDerm Scar Spray?

Do not use SilDerm Scar Spray if you are allergic to silicone or any of the other ingredients found in it.

Speak with your doctor or a specialist at Click Pharmacy if you are taking, or you are about to start taking, any other medicines or are using, or are about to use any other skin treatments.

Speak with your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or are likely to become pregnant before using SilDerm Scar Spray.

What is the difference between SilDerm Scar Spray and Retin-C Vitamin Scar Treatment Oil O9 / Solution for Scars™?

There are other types of products available to help with the appearance of scars, two of which are Retin-C Vitamin Scar Treatment Oil O9 and Science of Skin Solution for Scars™.

Retin-C Vitamin Scar Treatment Oil O9 is fundamentally different from SilDerm Scar Spray. Although it is a topical treatment, it is in oil form, which needs rubbing onto the affected area rather than being sprayed on. The active ingredient in SilDerm Scar Spray is silicone which is clinically proven to be useful, but Retin-C Vitamin Scar Treatment Oil O9 is entirely free of silicone and uses a blend of retinol oils (2% retinoid) and vitamins C (in the form of Ascorbyl Isostearate) and E. The active ingredients are bound in a non-comedogenic base which is designed to speed up skin cell shedding and renewal of the skin, which should help to improve the appearance of scars. The vitamin C inhibits bacteria growth, and jojoba oil is present to moisturise any dry or cracked skin.

Solution for Scars™ is a specialist scar cream that will work on your skin at a cellular level to actively improve the appearance of any scar tissue by reducing its redness and thickness. Its active ingredient is a natural product - Green Tea Phytochemical (EGCG) -and it is this which helps to stop the thickening and redness that make scars appear more obvious. As with Retin-C Vitamin Scar Treatment Oil O9, this is also to be rubbed into the skin rather than sprayed on.

Can I apply makeup or other skin care products while using SilDerm Scar Spray?

It is safe to apply different makeup and skincare products while using SilDerm Scar Spray. However you must allow the spray to dry before applying anything else to your skin.

How should I store SilDerm Scar Spray?

You should store SilDerm Scar Spray in a cool dry place, out of reach from children and at room temperature. This product should not be exposed to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight.

What if I forget to use SilDerm Scar Spray?

If you forget to use your dose of SilDerm Scar Spray you should use it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. If it is almost time for your next dose you should skip the dose you just missed and continue as normal.

After using SilDerm Scar Spray it is unlikely to experience side effects. You may experience minor itching and irritation however this is often mild. If you experience any of the following:

  • Severe irritation
  • Severe itching
  • Redness
