Evorel Conti Patches

Studies have continued to find hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, to still be the most effective way to ease life-altering symptoms of the menopause as well as help to prevent osteoporosis in women where this side effect is most likely and other preventative medication is not appropriate. Patches such as Evorel Conti are an easy way to ease your symptoms such as hot flushes, vaginal dryness, mood swings and pain during sex as the dose absorbs into your skin slowly throughout the day without the need to apply cream or swallow tablets.

Can I buy Evorel Conti online?

Evorel Conti patches can be purchased online from Click Pharmacy once it is approved by one of our in-house doctors. There are certain contraindications for HRT which require answers to questions including information on whether you have had a hysterectomy and the severity of your symptoms. Different treatments and doses will be safer and/or more beneficial depending on your situation so once you have had your answers assessed you will be prescribed your medication and you can purchase it right away. It will then be sent to your chosen address quickly and discreetly.

If you have any concerns or questions you can book a free and confidential appointment with our doctors online at any time.

How effective is Evorel Conti?

Evorel Conti patches are a combined treatment with women receiving both oestrogen and progesterone from them. As such they are very effective in the relief of menopausal symptoms in women who have not had a hysterectomy and therefore require both forms of hormone. They are also beneficial for women who are post-menopausal and more likely to suffer from bone issues such as osteoporosis.

Why choose Evorel Conti?

Evorel Conti patches are a quick and simple way to receive the exact dose of hormones you require every day without having to remember to take a tablet or worrying about applying cream.

If someone other than the patient gets the HRT cream on them they can absorb a dose of the treatment making it a more difficult form of treatment to manage. Similarly having to remember to take a tablet every single day can be too much for some people. Therefore, the quick and easy application of a patch means you receive the hormones you need without worrying about forgetting to take it or anyone else being affected.

What is contained in Evorel Conti?

The active ingredients in Evorel Conti patches are estradiol and the synthetic progesterone, norethisterone.

The inactive ingredients are:

  • Duro-Tak 387-2287 which makes the patches stick
  • guar gum
  • Hostaphan MN19 on the backing film.

If you have allergies to any of the above do consult with your GP or Click pharmacy doctor before going ahead and purchasing your prescription.

How should I use Evorel Conti?

Evorel Conti patches are designed for continual use so need to be changed twice a week, for example every Monday and Thursday, without a break between application. Remove the patch from the pouch

  • remove half the plastic backing, avoiding touching the sticky side until application
  • place the sticky half onto your skin
  • remove the remaining backing plastic and stick down the patch with the palm of your hand

Do not apply the patch:

  • near breasts
  • on broken skin
  • over the same place twice in a row
  • on areas where elasticated clothing will press on it
  • skin with moisturiser or talc on it

Do apply the patch to:

  • clean, dry skin
  • as soon as you open the patch packet
  • on the hairless area below the waist such as outer hips

When removing the patch fold the sticky side in on itself and put into the bin, out of the way of children and animals. Do not flush them down the toilet. If a patch falls off or you forget to change one, wait until your usual patch change day to reapply so you keep your body in its cycle as much as possible.

How does Evorel Conti work?

Evorel Conti patches are a combined HRT and contain the two sex hormones which are affected during the menopause. Oestrogen is depleted during this time and it is this which results in the unpleasant and unwanted side effects which many women experience. By topping up the falling oestrogen levels with Estradiol, many women find issues such as night sweats and mood swings are eased.

For women who have not had a hysterectomy the progesterone is necessary to stop the overgrowth of the womb lining as this can lead to endometrial cancer. During the reproductive years, the progesterone causes the womb lining to shed each month during the monthly cycle and though women tend not to experience periods during the menopause, the progesterone simply opposes the oestrogen’s effects on the endometrium lining which helps to reduce the risk of cancer.

How long can I use Evorel Conti for?

The patches can be used for several years to ease the side effects during the menopause. The average age of the menopause in the UK is 51 though some women start normal menopause as early as 45. Premature menopause would be earlier than this. Menopausal symptoms usually last between 4 and 5 years so, in most situations, HRT can be used during this time.

You are recommended to have an annual review of your medication to ensure you are still on the safest and most beneficial form of HRT for your situation and health.

What are the side effects of Evorel Conti?

Aside from the benefits of Evorel Conti patches, there are potential side effects which may be experienced by some women and not by others. It is usually recommended you wait at least 12 weeks before changing HRT so that your body can get used to the effects of the hormones and balance out. After this time, most women find their side effects disappear. You can speak to your doctor anytime about any side effects you experience if you are concerned.

Potential side effects can include:

  • headaches
  • breast tenderness
  • nausea
  • tingling in the hands or feet
  • painful joints
  • vaginal bleeding or discharge
  • anxiety
  • water retention
  • fatigue
  • weight gain
  • itchiness or redness where the patch is applied

If you notice any of these more serious side effects then remove the patch and contact your doctor or seek medical:

  • swelling of the face or throat
  • swelling of the hands or feet
  • stomach cramps
  • blood clots
  • jaundice
  • migraine for the first time
  • raised blood pressure
  • long heavy periods
  • rash or peeling skin
  • fits
Other Warnings to consider

HRT does pose a raised risk of developing cancer of the breast, endometrium or ovaries though combined HRT’s such as Evorel Conti patches help to lower this risk in women who have not had their womb removed.

Evorel Conti patches are not recommended for women who have had heart disease or a heart attack as HRT can affect the heart and circulation.

Blood clots are more likely to occur in HRT users and your risk of developing them, especially in the first year of using a treatment can be increased in certain situations including:

  • having a BMI of over 30
  • having already had a blood clot or a family history of them
  • having cancer
  • if you are pregnant or recently had a baby
  • if you have had miscarriages
  • if you require blood thinners
  • if you are sitting or lying down for long periods of time such as post-operatively
  • going on long, sedentary journeys

If you have any worries about developing any of the above then you can book a free and confidential appointment with your doctor online at Click Pharmacy anytime. They will be able to talk through your concerns and help you decide on the best treatment.
