Can I buy Vaniqa cream online?

Vaniqa can be purchased online via Click Pharmacy. You will be asked to answer a short set of assessment questions from which our doctors can confirm that this is the correct form of treatment for you. Once you have been prescribed Vaniqa, you can purchase it online, and in most situations, it will be sent out for next-day delivery.

Why choose Vaniqa?

Excessive facial hair can have a negative impact on your confidence and quality of life. Vaniqa is the only FDA-approved, prescription-only cream on the market which has been clinically proven to effectively reduce facial hair in women. As such, it offers a unique and convenient way to tackle this problem. The treatment can start to work in as little as four to eight weeks, and it has offered significant improvements for the many who have used it.

In fact, studies have shown that over 50% of women treated with this cream have successful outcomes, with the most marked improvement from around 8 weeks onward in the majority of patients. These results demonstrate that Vaniqa creates significant change in the lives of the women suffering from hirsutism who were trialled. Not only did it ‘reduce how bothered patients felt by their facial hair’, but it also decreased the requirement and/or time spent using hair removal treatments such as shaving, waxing and tweezing.

Vaniqa can support you in:

  • Successfully managing facial hirsutism
  • Boosting your confidence
  • Improving your appearance

How effective Is Vaniqa Cream?

The nearly 60% of women who had a successful outcome from the Vaniqa trial were graded as being ‘clear/almost clear’, demonstrating a ’marked improvement’ or ‘improved’.

How does Vaniqa work?

There is 13.9% of the active ingredient eflornithine in Vaniqa. This penetrates to the base of the hair follicles and interferes with an enzyme that is responsible for growth.

Are there other treatment options available?

Vaniqa is the only clinically approved hair reduction cream on the market at present, but depending on the reason for your hirsutism and whether you are pre or post menopausal, another potential treatment could be the use of oral contraceptives.

Since hirsutism is often caused by excessive levels of male hormones (androgens) then, in some cases, the contraceptive pill can help women who have not yet gone through the menopause to reduce the hair growth by blocking the androgens and their effects upon the female body.

Your doctor or specialist may prescribe you with these medications if they feel they could benefit you and reduce the effects of the hirsutism.

What causes Female Facial Hair?

Women contain male hormones (androgen) along with female hormones (oestrogen) in their system. And, when there is an excess of the male hormone in their system, it tends to cause female facial hair. Female facial hair or hirsutism in women occurs due to the effect of the increased circulation of androgen on hair follicles. Sometimes, it is due to the increased hormone sensitivity in the hair follicles themselves.

Female facial hair may be genetic. It is common in South Asians. In addition to this, medical conditions can also cause it, most commonly Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Note that tumours and menopause can cause it, too. Hirsutism can occur due to a rare side effect of some prescription medicines, as well.

Before using Vaniqa for facial hair removal, it is crucial to consult your GP first in order to ensure that there are not any underlying medical complications. An underlying medical condition is much more likely in the following cases:

  • Hirsutism or facial hair has developed way too quickly over the span of a few months or years
  • Menstrual problems
  • Other male hormone effects, like thinning hair over the scalp, and temples, symptoms of balding, or deepening of the voice
  • Obesity or diabetes

How should I take Vaniqa?

Vaniqa is applied in a thin layer to the affected parts of the face and the adjacent areas twice a day and at least eight hours apart unless otherwise directed by your GP or Click Pharmacy doctor.

Wait at least 5 minutes after performing your usual hair removal technique, e.g. shaving, and then apply the cream. It must be rubbed in gently and thoroughly, and the area should be left unwashed for at least four hours after application.

How long do I use Vaniqa cream for before I notice a difference?

It usually takes between eight weeks and four months to see results, but a difference in the amount of hair can be apparent after as little as four weeks. If you haven’t noticed a difference between four and six months, you should stop using the cream and return to your GP or book an appointment with your doctor at Click Pharmacy to discuss other options.

Side effects

You may experience a number of side effects from using Vaniqa Cream. These side effects are often mild and improve over time as your skin learns to adapt to the product. Common side effects include:

  • Burning like sensation
  • Itching
  • Stinging
  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Irritation

If any of these side effects worsen, you should stop using Vaniqa Cream and seek medical advice from a GP or pharmacist as soon as possible.

Can I use Vaniqa whilst pregnant or breastfeeding?

Vaniqa has not been trialled sufficiently enough in pregnant or breastfeeding women to declare it safe to use due to the potential that eflornithine could be secreted to the baby and/or in to the milk. As such, it is recommended by Vaniqa that an alternative form of hair removal is used during this time.

Who is not suitable to use Vaniqa

It is crucial to make sure that you do a patch test before applying the treatment directly to your face. Check out suitability before using it properly. In addition to this, individuals with a history of kidney or liver disease should avoid using the treatment.

Consult your pharmacist or GP before using Vaniqa. Although there are not any side effects associated with Vaniqa Cream, it may be in your best interests to make sure that it is suitable for you.

Note that typical skin preparations may irritate the skin. For instance, you should not use particular acne treatments or eczema moisturisers while using Vaniqa.
