    What is Dalacin Cream 2%

Bacterial vaginosis, also known as BV, is an infection which occurs when the balance of the bacteria within the vagina shifts, usually leading to one of the many forms of bacteria there multiplying to excessive levels. BV does not always cause symptoms meaning that some women may not seek treatment, but if you notice any changes to your vagina, including usual discharge then it is important to seek advice as you may require an antibiotic such as Dalacin cream.

Can I buy Dalacin Cream Online?

Dalacin cream is prescribed online by a doctor after you have completed a medical assessment to ensure this is the correct medication for you. If you have any concerns about your health you can also book a free, online appointment with the doctor to discuss this before getting your prescription.

If you are approved for this treatment, you will be given a prescription and prompted to purchase your medication. It will be sent discreetly by next day delivery where possible and to your chosen address.

    How effective is Dalacin?

Treatment is usually prescribed for anywhere up to 7 days but studies have shown that a 3 day prescription is as effective at clearing up BV as 7 days when a shorter treatment time is more appropriate, for example during pregnancy

    Why choose Dalacin Cream?

Dalacin treats BV in the form of a cream rather than a pill which is preferable for a patient who struggles to swallow tablets. It is also easy to apply and the cream is inserted quickly and hygienically with an applicator. It works overnight as you sleep so you need not worry about any issues with the cream affecting how you feel during the day or needing to wear a pad in your underwear due to leaked treatment.

Due to it being applied via a cream rather than orally, it is less likely to interfere with other medications too as the active antibiotic ingredient goes straight to the source of the infection rather than having to move through the system first, potentially interfering with any other medication you may take.

    What is contained in Dalacin?

The active ingredient in each dose of Dalacin is clindamycin phosphate.

    The inactive ingredients are:

    • benzyl alcohol
    • cetostearyl alcohol
    • cetyl palmitate
    • mineral oil
    • polysorbate 60
    • propylene glycol
    • purified water
    • sorbitan monostearate
    • stearic acid

How should I use Dalacin Cream?

One applicator of cream needs to be inserted into the vagina before bed for between 3 and 7 days as prescribed. Be sure to continue using the treatment to the end of the prescribed period even if you feel the BV has cleared up as, if you stop too soon, the bacteria could begin to grow again and the infection may come back.

    • wash your hands
    • fill the applicator with the cream
    • insert it high into the vagina
    • press the free end of the applicator to release the treatment
    • lie down as soon as possible once you have used the cream to avoid any leaking

You may be given additional applicators and if so, use a new one each time, otherwise clean it with soap and warm water before your next dose. Bear in mind that antibiotics work best when you keep a level amount of the drug in your system. As such, it is recommended you use the product at the same time each day.

Do not have sexual intercourse or use a douche whilst using this treatment as they can stop the cream from working effectively.

Use Dalacin cream as directed by your doctor and read the instructions if you require any further support on using the applicator. If you need any more advice, contact our experts anytime.

    How does Dalacin Cream work?

Bacteria requires certain proteins to be able to reproduce and grow in numbers; Dalacin cream stops the production of this protein and, in turn, stops the infection’s ability to develop. The majority of the bacteria dies due to the treatment and anythingwhich the cream does not destroy is killed off by your own immunity.

How long can I use Dalacin Cream for?

You will generally be prescribed treatment for 3 to 7 days. If your symptoms continue or worsen after you complete your full treatment then contact your doctor at Click Pharmacy or your GP.

What are the side effects of Dalacin Cream?

The most common side effects of Dalacin cream include mild diarrhoea or a slightly upset stomach along with irritation within the vagina and/or cervix.

Less common side effects include dizziness, headache or a rash but if you notice any other side effects such as hives, pelvic pain, irregular menstruation, flatulence or pain when passing urine then consult your doctor right away.

Sometimes antibiotics can get absorbed into the bloodstream causing a severe intestinal upset known as clostridium difficile. Though rare, it can occur during or after treatment so if you develop stomach pains, cramping, persistent diarrhoea or blood and/or mucus in your faeces then book an appointment with your doctor right away.

    Other Warnings to consider

Certain medications will interfere with the effects of Dalacin causing it to work less effectively and, based on other treatments you currently take you may need to either use another bacterial vaginosis product or else a lower dosage.

Although it is unlikely that orally taken medicines will affect Dalacin, you must still mention to your GP or Click Pharmacy doctor if you take or have recently used erythromycin or anaesthesia based muscle relaxants. Ensure you have a list of all your current medications to mention on your assessment form or during your appointment as well as if you have any allergies, specifically an allergy to lincomycin.

During pregnancy, this form of medication may not be appropriate but consult with the doctor to talk about any potential risks or benefits. Orally taken BV treatments are known to be more suitable in this situation. Dalacin cream is also not known to harm a breastfed baby though if your infant develops diarrhoea or another form of illness, consult your doctor right away.

Do not use condoms as your only form of contraception within 72 hours of ending your treatment as a certain oil within the cream can weaken the rubber and stop it from being effective at stopping pregnancy.
