How does Woodward’s Gripe Water work?
Mothers and nannies first used the original gripe water in England in the 1850s, it contained alcohol, which people used to think relaxed babies. Of course, modern science suggests that giving alcohol to babies can be toxic. In recent times, believers in Grip Water believe the ingredients in some gripe water formulas such as liquorice, dill, ginger and fennel help relieve gas and stomach discomfort (and in turn may be beneficial for infants with colic, which is thought to be caused at least in part by gas). Some experts believe gripe water might be effective at soothing fussy babies simply because it tastes sweet.
