What is NeilMed Sinus Rinse

NeilMed Sinus Rinse Nasal Wash Allergy Relief is a saline solution containing sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate. It is used to wash the nasal passages. This refill kit should be used in conjunction with the NeilMed squeeze bottle found in the starter kit. Once reconstituted with water that has been boiled and cooled, the solution causes mucus and allergens to flush out from the nose and sinuses. This method of nasal irrigation is an ancient practice, and very early history records show its use.

How effective is NeilMed Sinus Rinse nasal wash allergy relief?

NeilMed Sinus Rinse Nasal Wash Allergy Relief is a saline solution used to wash the nasal passages. This refill kit should be used in conjunction with the NeilMed squeeze bottle found in the starter kit. This helps to create positive pressure with the solution in the nasal passages in order to clean them thoroughly. The product can be used to eliminate pollens, debris, dust, and other allergens, causing irritation. It is useful in congestion as well as post-nasal drip and other upper respiratory tract conditions which cause irritation in the nasal passages.

Once reconstituted with water, the solution causes mucus and allergens to flush out from the nose and sinuses. It is used to treat rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal lining) and sinusitis (swelling in the sinuses, cavities within the skull that connect the nasal passages). It helps to reduce inflammation and improves the symptoms of a stuffed or block nose, dry cough, facial pain and pressure caused by infections, as well as the loss of taste or smell associated with a common cold, flu, or other infection.

How does NeilMed Sinus Rinse nasal wash allergy relief work?

The reconstituted solution works by rinsing out any mucus, pollens, debris, and allergens which are found in the nasal passages and removing them from the nostril opposing that in which the solution is pumped through. This results in clearer nasal passages and less mucus congestion.

Sodium chlorine and sodium bicarbonate in NeilMed Sinus Rinse Nasal Wash Allergy Relief provide a balanced pH and a positive pressure (provided by the squeeze bottle) in the nasal passages to flush out debris, bacteria, allergens, pollens, and mucus.

How long do I use NeilMed Sinus Rinse nasal wash allergy relief for before I notice a difference?

You should notice a difference in your symptoms from the very first time you use NeilMed Sinus Rinse Nasal Wash Allergy Relief. Since this is a very safe method of flushing out mucus and allergens, there is no limit to the length of treatment. You should use the product for as long as you need if it relieves your symptoms successfully.

How should I use NeilMed Sinus Rinse nasal wash allergy relief?

  1. Before each use, wash your hands thoroughly.
  2. The bottle should be cleaned before use.
  3. Fill the bottle till the mark with either bottled water, micro-filtered water, or water that has been boiled and cooled.
  4. Add the Sinus Rinse mixture to the bottle and tighten the cap, then cover the opening with a finger before shaking the bottle to mix well.
  5. Whilst standing in front of a sink, bend forward slightly while tilting your head down. Place the cap snuggly against one nostril and start pressing the bottle gently. Do not hold your breath, but consciously try to close the back of your throat as though you were underwater.
  6. The solution will go into one nostril and drain from the opposite nostril. You should maintain gentle pressure on the bottle until at least one quarter or one half of the solution has drained.
  7. Blow your nose gently and sniff in any solution that remains in the nostril.
  8. Repeat steps 5-7 with the solution now going into the other nostril.
  9. Clean the bottle and the cap and let it air dry.
  10. The procedure can be repeated as needed, up to several times in one day.

It is important to only use this method with water that has been filtered or boiled and cooled. Always use the premixed solutions and never use the squeeze bottle with water only. For hygiene purposes, each bottle should be used by only one user. The bottle (neti pot) should be replaced every 3 months from the first use.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine may cause adverse events or side effects, although not everybody gets them. Side effects with saline rinses are minimal, and they do not usually cause any problems. However, there might be slight discomfort in the ears and delayed drainage of solution from the nose after rinsing. These discomforts are temporary and will generally improve with repeated use.

Speak to your doctor or consult our specialists at Click Pharmacy should you require any further advice.

When shouldn’t I use NeilMed Sinus Rinse nasal wash allergy relief?

NeilMed Sinus Rinse Nasal Wash Allergy Relief should not be used in children younger than 10 years. Younger children may not be able to control closing the back of the throat so as not to swallow the solution. Even though there is no harm in consuming some of the solution, this would not have the desired effect of rinsing the nasal passages and may cause distress to the child, with a danger of choking.

Those with a history of recurrent nose bleeds should avoid using this product.
