When a person unintentionally passes urine this is known as incontinence and presentsin a number of ways:
- when the bladder is under stress, for example when you cough or sneeze, and the pressure forces the urine out
- with an intense urge which comes on suddenly
- due to chronic urinary retention where a patient is unable to empty the bladder completely when they use the toilet
- total incontinence, when the bladder is unable to hold urine and frequently leaks.
It is important to seek help from your doctor if you begin to notice any of these forms of incontinence as it can be treated in several ways including antispasmodic tablets such as Detrusitol.
