What is Beconase
Beconase Aqueous Nasal spray is a steroid spray designed to treat allergic rhinitis symptoms of a runny nose, sneezing, nasal obstruction, sneezing or itching. Its active ingredient is beclometasone dipropionate, which is a corticosteroid that works by reducing swelling, inflammation hence relieving an itchy runny or decongested nose.

What are the side effects of Beconase Aqueous Nasal Spray
If ever you experience any of the side effects not listed on the patient leaflet enclosed, report this to your doctor immediately. Otherwise, like all nasal sprays, some of the common side effects include unpleasant smell or taste,a dry or painful throat/nose, nose bleeds, skin rashes, itching, redness or weals due to mild allergic reactions. You may also experience sores inside your nose, hormonal related issues such as vomiting, weight loss, muscle weakness, lightheadedness, or anxiety.

Beconase Aqueous Nasal Spray may cause allergic reactions to a few people. These reactions should be reported to the doctor immediately as they occur for they can be life-threatening if left untreated. The allergy symptoms could range from having difficulty breathing, wheezing non-stop to swelling around the throat or face.
Very rare side effects cataracts, glaucoma or damage to your nose.
Prolonged use of this treatment in high doses, can also affect steroid production in your body. In children, this could inhibit normal growth thus causing them to grow a bit slower than their peers.

What dose should I choose?
Beconase Aqueous Nasal Spray is not suitable for children under the age of six years. Hence, for children above six years and adults, spray twice into each nostril two times a day. Each spray contains the strength of 50 micrograms of the active ingredient beclometasone dipropionate, therefore do not exceed a dose of 8 sprays in a period of 24 hours. That is four sprays per nostril.
Use the spray every day and regularly, for a maximum period of 12 weeks.
As your symptoms improve, the doctor may advise you to reduce the dosage to one spray per nostril, twice a day. Do not use a higher dose than the doctor recommends that even if you do not see any improvement. The doctor might suggest you increase the dose to the first dose if symptoms get worse.
Each unit (22gm) of Beconase Aqueous Nasal Spray contains 200 doses.
How should I takeBeconase Aqueous Nasal Spray
Shake the 22gm bottle of Beconase Aqueous Nasal Spray and take off the dust cap.
Prime the spray by pumping it a few times until a fine mist is produced.
Blow your nose before spraying. Close one nostril using your forefinger and put the nozzle in your other nostril. The nozzle should be facing away from the opposite nostril.
Breathe in gently then press the collar of the spray with your fingers until a fine mist is released. Breathe out through the mouth and repeat this process for the other nostril.
Once you’re done wipe the nozzle the replace the dust cap to seal.
Each 22mg of Beconase Aqueous Nasal Spray delivers 200 sprays.
How does Beconase Aqueous Nasal Spraywork?
Beconase Aqueous Nasal Spray contains an active ingredient known as beclometasonedipropionate, which works by decreasing the swelling of the air tracts in the lungs, thus making it easier for a patient to breathe. This steroid spray prevents and treats seasonal allergies such as hay fever and allergic rhinitis.
When shouldn’t I take Beconase Aqueous Nasal Spray

While Beconase Aqueous Nasal spray and Beconase Hayfever relief may fall under steroid sprays, Dymista is a dual-action spray combining both steroid action and antihistamine action.
Beconase Aqueous Nasal Spray requires a prescription while Beconase Hayfever does not.
It is not advisable to use a steroid spray such as Beconase Aqueous Nasal Spray alongside an antihistamine at the same time, although you can opt for a spray with 2 in 1 action such as Dymista
